The Perverse Gospel Of Giving By Motivational Preachers And Pastors

The Perverse Gospel Of Giving By Motivational Preachers And Pastors

Text: John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Romans 5: 8 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
1 John 4: 9-10. 9 “In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. 10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”
Romans 8: 32 “He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?”

This night (12th November 2013) by the special grace of God in my dream, I was having a conversation with a pastor of RCCG. He was saying that, the reason why people are poor is because they don’t give very handsomely. I countered him that, he was preaching a perverse gospel of ‘receive in proportion to what you have given’. I asked him if he had consider the given style and approach of the Almighty God, and he became speechless. I then told him, this is the error you pastors are preaching today that, giving is now the yardstick of measuring God’s faithfulness to His children. I finally told him not to speak on what he knows nothing about, and we discussed other matters.

Men and brethren, giving was instituted and initiated by God when there was no room for reciprocal. In Genesis 2:7, the bible declared that “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” This was the very first procedure of giving that was demonstrated by the LORD God Almighty (sharing his life with ordinary dust that you are).

As the various passages quoted in our text rightly says, God has since demonstrated his given towards us without hoping of getting anything in return before we were ever born again, “in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” Romans 5:8. However, the messages of today’s pastors is always giving, giving, giving and giving, as if this is all that is required of us today by the Almighty God before we can be accepted of Him as obedient children. This position of our pastors today on giving has given rise to criminal activities by the Christians, as you are termed a sinner when you don’t have the money to flout around like their flamboyant lifestyles.

Now, you should understand that I am not in any way condemning the act of giving but the approach and method that is employed today by our pastors. This is why a lot of churches and pastors are now asking people to partner with them, in order to receive outstanding miracles, breakthroughs, testimonies, favours, healings, and all others just by sowing handsomely and bountifully to their church through partnership. Child of God, if you truly know how much Jesus Christ has invested on you, you will never wait for any one pastor to hoodwink and brainwashed you into giving before you will give to support the work of God in any capacity as a TRUE CHRISTIAN.

Sometimes ago, a very popular pastor in Nigeria wrote in his daily devotional book with the Topic - GIVING: WHAT CONTAINER? I quote: “Dollar is a measure, Naira is another measure, Euro is another and Pounds is another measure. If you want returns in Dollars, sow in Dollars. DO NOT SOW IN NAIRA AND BE EXPECTING A HARVEST IN EURO. IT DOES NOT WORK LIKE THAT.
You can be in any country and sow in the particular currency in which you want your harvest. Sow and keep on sowing in that currency. By the time your harvest comes, you will celebrate. In addition, the various denominations of each currency are different measures too.
TAKE FOR INSTANCE THE NIGERIA NAIRA, YOU HAVE N1000, N500, N200, N100, N50, N20, N10 AND N5 NOTES. IT IS THE PARTICULAR DENOMINATION THAT YOU USE THAT GOD WILL MULTIPLY AND RETURN TO YOU. IF YOU KEEP USING THE SMALLEST OF THE DENOMINATIONS AND THINK YOU ARE THRIFTY OR WISE, YOU ARE ONLY LIMITING YOURSELF. DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR BY USING THE BIGGEST DENOMINATIONS SO AS TO GET THE GREATEST HARVEST.
Sometimes however, when you sow in a foreign currency, God may give you the harvest in a local currency for a reason. But if you check the value and compare with what you sowed, you will know that God knows how to calculate value in any currency.”
The above was captured in November 2012 edition of the devotional.

My God! For heaven sake, how does this perverse sermon agrees with the gospel of Our LORD Jesus Christ? So, because I desire to be blessed by God as a Nigerian, I should now be ‘sowing’ in Euro in his church, when the currency controlling my Nigerian economy is naira and kobo. Where are these pastors actually leading the flocks of Jesus Christ? No wonder individual contributors to his mega church building project were tasked and billed to donate 1 billion naira for the project. May God deliver his children today from the perverse messages of prosperity preachers and pastors in Jesus name. Amen.

Also, I was watching TV last week and I saw this punking hairstyle barbing pastor abusing his prayer warriors that they were poor because they only know how to pray and don’t know how to give. He so abused them that until he taught them how to give, then they started buying cars and other luxurious things. Ask me people of God, is financial prosperity the exclusive of the supposed Christians? Until you come to the understanding of who you are in Christ Jesus, these motivational and business minded preachers will keep on feeding fat on your ignorance. May your eyes be opened to the truth today in Jesus name.

WHY DO YOU GIVE AS A CHRISTIAN?
Child of God, we give wholeheartedly because we are the children of God. A true and heaven conscious Christian don’t give in anticipation for rewards, he instead give because he loves God. Therefore, if you are giving today, or sowing seed because of the blessings you are anticipating in return, you have already missed out from the blessing of the LORD that maketh rich without adding sorrows Proverbs 10:22.

THE PERVERSE GOSPEL OF TODAY’S WEALTH AND MOTIVATIONAL PREACHERS AND PASTORS
The perverse gospel preachers on giving used these passages and many more of the scriptures to support their prosperity preaching. They usually interpret these scriptures out of context to imprison you and ultimately turned you into their AUTOMATED TELLER MACHINE ATM. Be wise as serpents, Jesus Christ admonished us in Matthew 10:16. Are you wise today?

1. Luke 6:38 “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.”

2. 2 Corinthians 9:6 “But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.”

3. 1 Kings 17:8-16. 8 “And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, 9 Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee. 10 So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink. 11 And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand. 12 And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die. 13 And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son. 14 For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth. 15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days. 16 And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Elijah.”

4. 2 Chronicles 7:5 “And king Solomon offered a sacrifice of twenty and two thousand oxen, and an hundred and twenty thousand sheep: so the king and all the people dedicated the house of God.”

5. 2 Chronicles 1:6 “And Solomon went up thither to the brasen altar before the LORD, which was at the tabernacle of the congregation, and offered a thousand burnt offerings upon it.”

6. Malachi 3:8-12. (TITHE IS NONE NEGOTIABLE PLEASE AND IT IS NOT A GIVING – IT IS A MANDATE YOU MUST FULFILL AS A TRUE BORN AGAIN CHRISTIAN).
8 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. 9 Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. 10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. 11 And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts. 12 And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the LORD of hosts.

7. Mt 10:41 “He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward.”

8. Genesis 26:12 Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him.

GIVING (freewill offering, vows, seed sowing etc) IS ACCORDING TO YOUR ABILITY.
In Mark 12:41-44, Jesus Christ taught us a lesson by observing how people were giving their offerings. A lot of very rich and influential people of those times gave millions and billions of their wealth as a freewill offering to God (they did so to please their pastors), out of the abundance they had and according to their capacity (being very rich). However, a poor widow was commended as the person that gave the most (imagine somebody that gave just two mites because she gave to please God) as against the millions and billions that were given by the super rich. Have you ever asked yourself why this woman’s offering was the best even though it was the POOREST? It is simple! She gave with all her heart without any form of compulsion or by being brainwashed, or fears to be ridiculed by the greedy of lucre pastors. She gave joyfully and cheerfully with all she had (“but she of her WANT did cast in all that she had”) even though she was a pauper. What lesson do you learn from this message of Jesus Christ child of God!

In giving, you must realize that God is not in any way hungry and therefore, don’t you ever think that if you don’t give, food will become scarce to God. Never! If you don’t give, you are only doing yourself because the cattle on a thousand hills belong to God Psalm 50:10. Give because you loved God, and you are doing so in obedience to His commands John 14:15. Learn from brother Nehemiah how to passionately and courageously give bountifully to the work of the LORD without any motivation Nehemiah 2:1-8.
Meanwhile, these preachers with perverse gospel message on giving are only stressing the need for you to give for their personal consumption and aggrandizement. Haven’t you see them today with their flashy and exotic cars, private jets, profit making businesses and what not, due to the fact that they are earthly concentrated? They are amassing wealth for their unborn generations and yet, THESE THINGS ARE NOTHING BUT DUNG, using the language of Apostle Paul Philippians 3:8.

DOES THE POSSESSION OF FINANCIAL BLESSING AND BREAKTHROUGH IN A SUPPOSED CHRISTIAN TRULY SHOWS THAT GOD IS BLESSING HIM AS A RESULT OF HIS/HER FINANCIAL GIVING?
Children of God, don’t let anyone deceive you. The fact that you are very prosperous today does not amount to your cash giving and donation towards the work of God in the church (freewill offerings, vows and others). This is because God is the one that gives power (to Christians and non Christians alike) to get wealth Deuteronomy 8:18. The Almighty God is equally the One that cause His rain to both fall on the Christians and the non Christians alike Matthew 5:45. Again, every good gift and every perfect gift are from God James 1:17. God is also the One that give bread to the eater and seed to the sower Isaiah 55:10. He is the One that equally bring promotion Psalm 75:6. He is also the One that set up one and bring down another Psalm 75:7. Therefore, you absolutely have nothing to boast about in regards to your financial opulence. In case you don’t know, God is seeing you AS A FOOL, hence you will die and live these material and corruptible possession in the hands of the people unknown to you Luke 12:20. Don’t you ever in your life forget that God created the waster to destroy your wealth too Isaiah 54:16.

GOD’S VERDICTS AGAINST PERVERSE GOSPEL PREACHERS
These and much more are the verdict of the Almighty God on you that is preaching a perverse gospel of giving, except you repent.

Job 20:4-29.
4 Knowest thou not this of old, since man was placed upon earth, 5 That the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment? 6 Though his excellency mount up to the heavens, and his head reach unto the clouds; 7 Yet he shall perish for ever like his own dung: they which have seen him shall say, Where is he? 8 He shall fly away as a dream, and shall not be found: yea, he shall be chased away as a vision of the night. 9 The eye also which saw him shall see him no more; neither shall his place any more behold him. 10 His children shall seek to please the poor, and his hands shall restore their goods. 11 His bones are full of the sin of his youth, which shall lie down with him in the dust. 12 Though wickedness be sweet in his mouth, though he hide it under his tongue; 13 Though he spare it, and forsake it not; but keep it still within his mouth: 14 Yet his meat in his bowels is turned, it is the gall of asps within him. 15 He hath swallowed down riches, and he shall vomit them up again: God shall cast them out of his belly. 16 He shall suck the poison of asps: the viper's tongue shall slay him. 17 He shall not see the rivers, the floods, the brooks of honey and butter. 18 That which he laboured for shall he restore, and shall not swallow it down: according to his substance shall the restitution be, and he shall not rejoice therein. 19 Because he hath oppressed and hath forsaken the poor; because he hath violently taken away an house which he builded not; 20 Surely he shall not feel quietness in his belly, he shall not save of that which he desired. 21 There shall none of his meat be left; therefore shall no man look for his goods. 22 In the fulness of his sufficiency he shall be in straits: every hand of the wicked shall come upon him. 23 When he is about to fill his belly, God shall cast the fury of his wrath upon him, and shall rain it upon him while he is eating. 24 He shall flee from the iron weapon, and the bow of steel shall strike him through. 25 It is drawn, and cometh out of the body; yea, the glittering sword cometh out of his gall: terrors are upon him. 26 All darkness shall be hid in his secret places: a fire not blown shall consume him; it shall go ill with him that is left in his tabernacle. 27 The heaven shall reveal his iniquity; and the earth shall rise up against him. 28 The increase of his house shall depart, and his goods shall flow away in the day of his wrath. 29 This is the portion of a wicked man from God, and the heritage appointed unto him by God.

Job 27:8 “For what is the hope of the hypocrite, though he hath gained, when God taketh away his soul?”

Psalm 39:6 “Surely every man walketh in a vain shew: surely they are disquieted in vain: he heapeth up riches, and knoweth not who shall gather them.”

Psalm 52:7 “Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength; but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness.”

Jeremiah 17:11 “As the partridge sitteth on eggs, and hatcheth them not; so he that getteth riches, and not by right, shall leave them in the midst of his days, and at his end shall be a fool.”

James 4:13-14. 13 “Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: 14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.”

Consider your ways today and amend them before it is too late.
God bless you.
