THE COVENANT OF
CIRCUMCISION – THE HYPOCRISY OF SOME SUPPOSED CHRISTIANS
Text: Acts 7:8
And he gave him the covenant of
circumcision: and so Abraham begat Isaac, and circumcised him the eighth
day; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat the twelve patriarchs.
Genesis 17:1-14
1 And when Abram
was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I
am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.
2 And I will make my covenant between me and
thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.
3 And Abram fell
on his face: and God talked with him, saying,
4 As for me,
behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations.
5 Neither shall
thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father
of many nations have I made thee. {Abraham: that is, Father of a great
multitude}
6 And I will
make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall
come out of thee.
7 And I will
establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their
generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed
after thee.
8 And I will
give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a
stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be
their God.
9 And God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep
my covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their generations.
10 This is my covenant, which ye shall keep,
between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be
circumcised.
11
And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of
the covenant betwixt me and you.
12
And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child
in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any
stranger, which is not of thy seed.
13 He that is born in thy house, and he that
is bought with thy money, MUST needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be
in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.
14 And the
uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that
soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant.
Lord
Jesus, I present your word your own children. Please, give each and every one
of us the grace to understand and accept your word, whether it is called Old
Testament or New Testament. Help us by your own Holy Spirit to remain obedient
children unto you till the end of time. May we never be cast away from your
presence forever more due to the neglect of your own word in Jesus Mighty name
I pray, Amen.
Good
afternoon children of God and the Bride of Christ earnestly waiting for the
trumpet of the rapture to sound. It is a good thing that we are called into this
Christian family as a result of the Blood of Jesus Christ, which was shared on
the cross of Calvary Acts 20:28.
However, let us all remember that, even if the human race will embrace Christianity
today, not all will still make it to the paradise of heaven Luke 13:24.
Now,
in pursuing this teaching, let’s consider Romans
10:1-3. It is very clear that, a lot of Christians today are actually
zealous for the Lord but, it is not according to knowledge because, what they
are calling today as righteousness is ‘self righteousness.’ This is because
most Christians today have succeeded to divide the word of God between two
distinct lines of arguments (Old and New Testament), forgetting that God is the
same God from Genesis to Revelation and he can never change Malachi 3:6.
When
the Almighty God was covenanting with Abraham in Genesis 17:7, He indeed stated that, it is an everlasting covenant
that Abraham and all his descendants must keep. Therefore, since we Christians
of today are not directly the offspring of Abraham (family lineage), it can
therefore be argued that, we are no longer to be bound by the ‘covenant of
circumcision’ that God entered with Abraham, as a token between them Genesis 17:11. Should this become our
position, can we therefore be called the children of Abraham today? Certainly
not!
You
must however remember that, this ‘covenant of circumcision’ that God entered with
Abraham was not just for him and the descendants of his blood alone but, it
also accommodated the slaves that were bought or that would be bought with
money in all their generations Genesis
17:12. This is where I and you today become partakers of the blessings of Abraham
as promised by God in Genesis 17:4,
on making him (Abraham) to become the father of many nations, even though he
was childless at the time. This is where the ‘spiritual children’ of Abraham
was also birthed as a result of the faith we have today Galatians 3:7. Abraham is the father of faith and anyone that will
ever exercise faith in the Lord is the seed of Abraham Romans 4:11-12.
Now,
the token of the ‘covenant of circumcision’ was the removal of the foreskin of
every male child after 8 days of birth Genesis
17:11-12, Hebrews 6:17. Was
Abraham 8 days when he was circumcised? The answer is no. How therefore was Abraham
able to partake of a covenant that has ordinarily knocked him off? This is
where FAITH comes to play. He simply believed God in everything God told him
and it was counted as ‘righteousness’ unto him Genesis 15:6, Romans 4:3 and equally make him to be called ‘the
Friend of God’ James 2:23, Isaiah 41:8.
My
friend, if you therefore are disobedient to the word of God today, no matter
the part of the bible, you are certainly not the descendant of Abraham, and you
can never be termed righteous, for choosing which part of the bible or the word
of God to obey. Remember Jesus Christ is the word of God John 1:1 and if you are therefore selective of the part of the
bible to obey, you don’t know Jesus because He (Jesus) said “but my words shall not pass away” Matthew 24:35. See also Jeremiah 31:36,
Matthew 5:18 and Mark 13:35. The bible has no private interpretation and
therefore must be obeyed in its entirety 2
Peter 1:20-21.
THE
HYPOCRISY
A
lot of Christians and some churches today do not believe on the doctrines and
teachings of the Old Testament bible. They are quick to point out that, since
Christ has shed his blood for our redemption on the cross, the Old Testament
part of the bible is no longer to be obeyed. But, my fear for this people is
their limiting the written word of God (bible) to men’s idea. This is however at
variance with the teachings of 2 Peter 1:20-21.
Do we therefore have the moral justification(s) today to be selective of what
part or teachings of the bible to obey? I don’t think so.
Has
God changed? Is the bible no longer the word of God? Can be bible be complete
without the Old Testament? Did Jesus ask us in his teachings not to believe or
accept the Old Testament as the word of God? Can we be justified and accepted
by God if we don’t accept the teachings of the Old Testament? Can we likewise be
justified and accepted by God if we do accept the teachings of the Old
Testament? These and many more is begging for answers from the proponents of
New Testament ONLY believing Christians.
IF YOU ARE A CHRISTIAN
MAN AND YOU DON’T BELIEVE IN THE OLD TESTAMENT PART OF THE BIBLE BUT, IF YOU
ARE CIRCUMCISED AND YOU ARE STILL CIRCUMCISING YOUR MALE CHILDREN, YOU ARE A HYPOCRITE.
May
the name of our Lord Jesus Christ be praise forever.
