DIVORCEMENT: MAN IN CONTENTION AGAINST THE WILL OF GOD
Matthew 19:3-12
3 “The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and
saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?
4 And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that
he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,
5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and
mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?
6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore
God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
7 They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a
writing of divorcement, and to put her away?
8 He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your
hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not
so.
9 And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife,
except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and
whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.
10 His disciples say unto him, If the case of the man be so
with his wife, it is not good to marry.
11 But he said unto them, All men cannot receive this
saying, save they to whom it is given.
12 For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their
mother's womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and
there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of
heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.”
An adage in my place of birth says ‘if a woman does not
marry two husbands, she won’t know which one is better’. This adage is not only
ungodly but a direct confrontation against the word of GOD as far as marriage
is concerned. GOD ordained marriage to be one man and one woman, hence the
first institution He made was between Adam - singular, and Eve – singular
Genesis 1:27; 2:20-25.
When JESUS declared that “And I say unto you, Whosoever
shall put away his wife, EXCEPT IT BE FOR FORNICATION, and shall marry another,
committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit
adultery” Matthew 19:9, He was correcting the erroneous practices and beliefs
held earlier that once two people are sexually connected together without
parental consent, that they were married. No, this was never a marriage but a
practice of sin partners in sexual relationship called ‘fornication’. There’s
never a marriage in such a case and therefore when these two sin partners part
ways, they have not sin against the will of GOD. If fact, they have made the
best decision of their lives and they will now be in a better position to truly
repent and amend their ways because no fornicator has eternal life in him/her.
1 Corinthians 6:9 “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the
kingdom of God? Be not deceived: NEITHER FORNICATORS, nor idolaters, nor
adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10 Nor
thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall
inherit the kingdom of God.”
Therefore, if you are involved in sexual relationship when
you are not LEGALLY married, please repent and stop it now because you have
used it to shut the door of the kingdom of GOD against you. The body, the Bible
says is for the LORD and not for fornication. “Now the body is not for
fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body” 1 Corinthians 6:13.
But today, you see people happily divorcing their married partners
even among supposed Christians and they will be excited in doing so. Even the
law courts are today annulling and dissolving marriages at will just because
the two married couples says they can no longer lived together. Here, do people
actually know the implications of what they are doing?
And doing so, you see them jumping again into another
supposed marriage when the word CLEARLY states that whoever married a divorced
fellow is an adulterer. No adulterer has eternal life in him/her. You should
repent now and plead unto GOD for mercy if you are in this condition. 1
Corinthians 6:9 “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom
of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, NOR ADULTERERS,
nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10 Nor thieves, nor
covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the
kingdom of God.” Exodus 20: 14 "Thou shalt not commit adultery."
My concern is the fact that the Almighty GOD kicked against divorcement
and warned that “WHAT THEREFORE GOD HATH JOINED TOGETHER, LET NOT MAN PUT
ASUNDER” Matthew 19:6b. When people now take pride to annul the marriage that
was constituted legally, are they not putting asunder what GOD had joined
together?
Therefore, if your marriage is in disarray and heading
towards the rock, please pray, seek the face of GOD and most importantly,
invite JESUS our burden bearer into your marriage and the storm will cease.
Remember He said “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are
heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me;
for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For
my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30.
Come unto JESUS CHRIST now and your marriage shall be whole
again.
